Dental Exams -  Dr. Deitrick performs comprehensive exams on each patient at their initial appointment and at each recall appointment. Exams include screenings for cavities, gum disease, orthodontic problems, and oral cancer.

Cleaning and polishing – Professional dental cleanings (prophylaxis) are performed by a Registered Dental Hygienist. She will remove plaque and calculus from the tooth surface and look for any inflammation of your gums that may signify periodontal disease.

XRAYDiagnostic X-rays – x-rays are necessary to see cavities that may be forming between the teeth. We only take x-rays that we deem necessary for diagnostic purposes. We will use digital x-rays which use less radiation than traditional film. Bitewing x-rays are used to detect cavities, periapical x-rays are used to evaluate the roots of the teeth, and a panorex is used to look at wisdom teeth and to screen the entire upper and lower jaws for pathology.

Sealants –  A protective coating that is typically painted on the permanent molars after they erupt to seal over the deep grooves in the teeth where cavities form. Sealants greatly reduce the chances of developing decay and are checked at each recall appointment.

Fluoride Treatment -  Fluoride helps prevent tooth decay by making the tooth more resistant to acid attacks from plaque bacteria and sugars in the mouth.  In children under six years of age, fluoride becomes incorporated into the development of permanent teeth, making it difficult for acids to demineralize the teeth. We recommend children receive fluoride treatments twice a year. We use fluoride varnish which stays on the teeth for a longer period of time and also recommend treatment for adults who are at higher risk of developing decay.

Fillings – Dental fillings are used to restore worn or damaged teeth and treat tooth decay. Composite resins are tooth colored fillings which are used in the front of the mouth and are now strong enough to be used in the back of the mouth. Amalgams are silver fillings which are very strong and cost effective that are generally used only in back teeth.

Bonding –  Refers to composite resin which can be bonded to teeth to repair chipped teeth or alter the shape of the teeth. Bonding can be used to close gaps between teeth or to alter the shape and size of teeth. Many cosmetic concerns can be corrected with bonding.

BrushPeriodontal (Gum) Disease –  A chronic infection of the gums which can be painless and lead to loss of teeth. The cause of gum disease is a buildup of plaque and calculus beneath the gum-line. At each recall appointment we check for the presence of gum disease and clean the plaque and calculus off the teeth. If gum disease is present we may schedule a series of appointments to complete a more thorough deep cleaning called scaling and root planning which is done under local anesthetic.

Root Canal Treatment – When the nerve of the tooth becomes infected or damaged then root canal therapy is indicated. The nerve is removed and the inner part of the tooth is disinfected and filled and sealed with an inert material. We are able to perform most root canals in the office.

Extractions – There are times when it becomes necessary to remove a tooth.  Sometimes your orthodontist may recommend teeth to be extracted to aid in the orthodontic treatment. Most extractions are performed in this office.  More complicated extractions may be referred to an oral surgeon.

Crowns – Same day crowns are now available in our office.  In 2015 Dr. Deitrick purchased a CEREC machine to make crowns in the office.  The CEREC machine uses digital technology so impressions are no longer needed and there is no 2 week waiting period with a temporary crown until the final crown is delivered.  We take a digital scan of the tooth and design the crown on a computer while you wait comfortably in the chair. The crown is then milled in our lab from a solid block of material.  Digital scans are more accurate than impressions so the crowns usually fit much better with little or no adjustment needed.  The crowns are also more natural looking with no dark lines at the gum line.

Bridges – Bridges are a series of at least 3 crowns which are used to replace a missing tooth and are not removable.  Certain bridges can also be done on the CEREC machine (see Crowns) but longer ones still need to be sent to the lab.

Dentures (Full or Partial) – A denture is a removable dental appliance replacement for missing teeth.  They are made to closely resemble your natural teeth and enhance your smile.  Complete (full) dentures are used when all teeth are missing, while partial dentures are used when some natural teeth remain.  A partial denture not only fills in spaces created by missing teeth, it prevents other teeth from shifting.  An immediate complete denture can be made ahead and placed immediately after extractions.

Teeth Whitening – Tooth whitening (or bleaching) is a simple, non-invasive dental treatment used to change the color of natural tooth enamel and enhance the beauty of your smile.  This treatment requires 2 visits.  A mold is taken at the first visit.  A tray is made and will be given to you at your second visit, along with the bleaching material and instructions as to its use.  The trays can be worn at home for specific time periods.

DEITRICK_7AImplants – A dental implant is an artificial tooth root used to support restorations that resemble a tooth or group of teeth.  Dental implants can be used to support a number of dental prostheses, including crowns, implant- supported bridges or dentures.  Dental implants are an ideal option for people in good general oral health who have lost a tooth or teeth due to periodontal disease, an injury, or some other reason.  This treatment also requires the expertise of an oral surgeon who places the implant(s) in the bone.

Nitrous Oxide – Nitrous Oxide is available upon request.  Nitrous Oxide (laughing gas) is used to reduce dental anxiety and reduce pain.  Once the gas is stopped it leaves your system with no residual effects.

Dental Emergencies – Our goal is to help you minimize the risk of emergency treatment.  Unfortunately, emergencies do happen and we always try to see patients in pain on the same day.   If the office is closed you will be directed to a number to reach Dr. Deitrick.

Snoring Appliance – Snoring can be a big problem for some people. We can fabricate an appliance that slightly protrudes the lower jaw which opens the airway to diminish snoring.  This appliance is not to treat sleep apnea.

Mouth Guards – Many people clench or grind their teeth while they sleep causing excessive wear on their teeth or jaw pain or headaches. Mouth guards are generally worn at night to protect the teeth.

Retainers – Clear retainers can be fabricated at our office to prevent your teeth from shifting and maintain their current positioning. If you want to move teeth then we will refer you to an orthodontist.
